This materiality of color can be found in the art of stained glass. Poliakoff experimented with this medium after attending the opening of the exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris devoted to Marc Chagall's stained glass windows for Jerusalem. These were created in the studio of artist Charles Marq (1923-2006), a master glassmaker with whom Poliakoff collaborated in 1963 on his first stained-glass window.
