Etching, aquatint, line engraving on zinc plate.
In the 1960s, Poliakoff's art was finally recognized. In 1962, an entire room was dedicated to his work at the prestigious Venice Biennale.
The current engraving dates from 1964, and has an edition of 20 prints. The artist chose pink as the dominant shade, which is not the easiest color. Poliakoff is doing brilliantly. He chooses a very subtle shades of pink and uses all the possibilities offered to him by the techniques he uses: etching, aquatint, line engraving on a zinc plate.
So much for the color. The shapes are characteristic of Poliakoff's style; an architectural composition, to use the term chosen by Yves Saint-Laurent when he explained what had inspired him in Poliakoff's art for one of his collections of dresses in 1965. An architecture specific to the artistic universe from Poliakoff; never orthogonality, irregular lines of force that balance each other out.
A work with an economy of means, but which a lot of refinement.
Very good condition
