This artwork is taken from the illustrated book « Poésie de mots, poésie de couleurs » (‶Poetry of words, poetry of colors″), in which the Ukrainian-born artist illustrates seven poems by contemporary writers and friends: Stéphane Mallarmé, Arthur Rimbaud, Blaise Cendrars, Joseph Delteil and Philippe Soupault. In this instance, she illustrates a poem by Tristan Tzara, a Romanian-born Surrealist poet who inspired her to create theatrical costumes, including for the satirical play he wrote in 1921: "Le cœur à gaz".

The illustrated book was published by the parisian gallery Denise René to celebrate the exhibition of over forty of the artist's gouaches that same year. The gouache stencilling process produces brilliant, solid colors. One can only appreciate the mastery of geometric abstraction by the greatest exponents of Orphism. The composition is built around flat black semicircles, whose presence is supported by grey areas. The foundation of the rhythm is thus laid, and the melody is balanced by the addition of blue, red and green. This stunning artwork is the culmination of what the artist describes as the simultaneous contrast of colors.
