A lithograph with dazzling chromatic variations, created as a greeting card for Serge Poliakoff's entourage. Its richness is hidden in the tones obtained by the transparency of the layers of color laid one on top of the other. Poliakoff achieves a particular effect on the luminosity and density of color.
This materiality of color is also found in stained glass. Poliakoff experimented with this medium after attending the opening of the exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris devoted to Marc Chagall's stained glass windows for Jerusalem. These were created in the studio of artist Charles Marq (1923-2006), a master glassmaker with whom Poliakoff collaborated in 1963 on his first stained-glass window.
