Follow Edouard PIGNON
Édouard Pignon was a French painter of the New School of Paris, born on 12 February 1905 in Bully-les-Mines (Pas-de-Calais) and died on 14 May 1993 in La Couture-Boussey (Eure).
His abundant work, which is difficult to classify, develops in series around various themes that follow one another or unfold simultaneously, sometimes intertwining: the dramas of the working class, boat sails and olive tree trunks, the work of peasants, cockfights, the horror of wars, naked divers and sunny beaches. With Picasso, whose intimate he was for three decades, he fought in the 1950s against the systematism of socialist realism, without joining his non-figurative painter friends with whom he had exhibited very frequently from the 1940s onwards in France and abroad.
