Biography

Dolores Capdevila is an Argentine-born artist who currently lives and works in Canada. She was born in 1966 in La Carlota, Argentina.

After earning her degree in painting from the Universidad de Córdoba in Argentina in 1990, Dolores Capdevila began exhibiting her work in Argentina and Brazil from 1990 to 1994. This period was crucial for her artistic development, as it allowed her to consolidate her style and gain recognition on the South American art scene.

In 1994, she moved to Germany, marking a turning point in her career. From 1995, she participated in the group exhibition "Contemporary Latin American Art" at the Casino of Tübingen and “Art in Tübingen” at the Tübingen Museum. These exhibitions helped to expand her recognition in Europe.

In 1999, she showcased her work in the exhibition “Ausgesucht - 6 x 1” at the Peters-Badenbrock Gallery in Berlin and Ahrenshoop. In 2002, she was part of the group exhibition “10 Years Peters-Barenbrock Gallery” in Berlin, confirming her presence in the German art scene.

In 2004, Dolores Capdevila moved to Canada and continued her artistic career in North America. She exhibited at the Bongardt Gallery in Hanover that same year. In 2005, she participated in the group exhibition “Gifted” at the Bowen Island Art Gallery in Vancouver and was invited to the “Biennale Internationale Dell'Arte Contemporanea di Firenze”.

The year 2006 was marked by several individual and group exhibitions, including “The Secret Garden” at the Bowen Island Gallery, “Retrospective” at the West Vancouver Library, and the “Harmony Art Festival” at the Ferry Building Gallery in Vancouver. She was again invited to the Biennale Internationale Dell'Arte Contemporanea di Firenze and participated in the “art.fair” in Cologne.

In 2007, Dolores Capdevila continued to participate in international art events such as the “art.fair” in Cologne and “Art Karlsruhe”.

Her work is deeply influenced by memories and sensations from her childhood in Argentina. She explores themes of light and shadow, evoking the gardens of her childhood filled with light, shadow, fragrances, and secrets. Through her art, she seeks to find the path back to lost time, expressing a personal quest for connection with her past. Her works invite an introspective journey, exploring memory and emotion.
