Joan Llorens i Gardy is a ceramist born in 1938 in Boulogne-Billancourt. He is the son of the ceramist Josep Llorens Artigas, friend of Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. He signed under the pseudonym Joan Gardy Artigas.
He attended the École du Louvre and then the Beaux-Arts. While his father lived in Catalonia, he developed his own style through contact with Parisian artistic life. He opened his ceramics studio in Paris, became close to Giacometti, and worked with Braque and Chagall. He then met Sam Szafran with whom he created two ceramic walls in the 2000s, commissioned by Léonard Gianadda for the Szafran Pavilion at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation in Martigny, Switzerland.
In the 1950s, Joan Miró collaborated with his father Josep in the creation of various monumental ceramic walls. When Josep's age prevented him from continuing his work, Miró called on Joan - known as Joanet - with whom he would work for more than twenty years. Their collaboration can be seen in numerous ceramic walls.
Joan Gardy Artigas also signed numerous works of his own, including fountains and buildings. Since the 1970s, he has also developed lithography and engraving.
