This large-format oil on canvas was created during Roberto Matta's mature period. It is a masterful testimony to the achievement of the Chilean artist, who renewed the codes of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, with his unique perspective on the world and the mind, as well as his great plastic inventiveness.

The artist paints flat structures of various sizes and shapes, linked by conical and filiform junctions. This mechanical system is suspended in a gray and blue fog. It reveals a space with a destructured atmospheric perspective and illuminated by diffuse light sources, whose counterpart are the few golden dots on the matrix. The hazy rendering of gradual layers of darkness and light, vibrating with undulatory movements signified by concentric circles, give the work surprisingly palpable dimensions.

The traits of this trained architect are visible. He is inspired by mathematics and quantum physics to disrupt the notions of time, place and space. These reflections accompany his passion for mysticism towards the search for an accurate representation of the unconscious.

As the artist himself affirms, his art, and even more so this work, is a hymn to truth in the most concrete sense of the term, far from its apparent abstraction: "I think that the role of the painter is to seek not the other reality but the true reality. It is with the mental glance, by creating a poetic gesture, that one can rebuild the truth ".
