From 1953, Poliakoff made blue a predominant color in his paintings and his graphic work, which he treated in monochromy. The marriage of shapes, through the attention paid to their contours, develops in two stages. In the background, a complex construction in several shades of blue gives a feeling of agitation. In the foreground, elementary shapes, a band and a circle, make the composition calmer.
The circle also appears in his work during this period, which adds to the rarity of this work. The composition is almost identical to that of the gouache he produced three years earlier, entitled Symphonie bleu. Here, the light colors of gray white and blue, almost transparent, illuminate the composition and the few touches of orange-pink balance it with their complementarity.
