"Original edition of Sur le mur d'en face by Pierre Soulages, published in 1979.
The print run is limited to 100 copies; this one is one of 15 artist’s proofs, numbered EA 8, signed by the artist, with a handwritten dedication signed by Pierre Soulages to Daniel Abadie: 'pour Daniel A, Pierre'.
Signature on the blind stamp "genuine Arches satin paper"
The work contrasts a flat, vertical black plane with a light brown surface, revealing light through opposition. Totemic in form, the black line evokes a primitive architecture, erected as a source of clarity. As Pierre Encrevé explains, in Soulages’ work, light emanates from black.
Printed in an edition of 100, this print is one of 15 artist’s proofs (A.P. 8/15), signed by Soulages himself. It was offered with a handwritten dedication to Daniel Abadie, art critic and exhibition curator.
