Limoges Porcelain
The exaltation of color, combined with form and rhythm, so dear to Sonia Delaunay, is at its peak with this porcelain vase. The artist's rhythmic compositions lend themselves perfectly to this three-dimensional object, combining square and rectangular sides.
The screen-printed pattern on the square side is complex. It combines an imbrication of elementary geometric shapes such as the square and the rectangle - reminiscent of the shape of the object, with discontinuous lines and curves.
Delaunay composes a circuit of her usual primary colors, which clash with each other in a perpetually shifting movement. This bold composition reveals the profound essence of her art, where color has a constructive value, separate from any meaning or subject.
