This work is one of fifteen artist’s proofs (EA 8/15), signed in ink by Pierre Soulages. It includes a handwritten dedication by the artist to Daniel Abadie, art critic and exhibition curator. The screen print was published as part of the original edition of Sur le mur d’en face (1979), a rare and important publication that brings together text and image in a dialogue emblematic of Soulages’ artistic vision.
This screenprint is distinguished by the depth of black, contrasted with a burnished brown chromaticism featuring metallic accents, evoking the patina of time where light filters through corroded material. Through this texture effect, Soulages uses black to reveal light, in a subtle tension between flat opacity and luminous vibration.
