Llibre dels sis sentits is one of the major cycles from Joan Miró's late period. Through these plates, the Catalan artist explores the idea of a “sixth sense”: a sense that transcends ordinary perceptions to open up to the realm of the imaginary and the poetic. Flat areas of pure color unfold against a vibrant black background, punctuated by white lines that form a network of signs, sometimes resembling cosmic writing.
These images evoke, in turn, a celestial map, a musical score, or a theater of abstraction. They reflect Miró's desire to invent an autonomous visual language, where gesture, color, and sign become the vectors of a total sensory experience.
Through their creative force and poetic intensity, the plates of the Llibre dels sis sentits confirm Miró as one of the greatest visual poets of the 20th century, always in search of new space for the imagination.
