The collection of poems Les Illuminations, a mixture of prose and free verse, was written by the poet Arthur Rimbaud between 1872 and 1875 during his travels across Europe alongside the poet Paul Verlaine, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship. It embodies the rebellious essence of his poetry, where each word seems to overturn established meaning. The term “illuminations” evokes colorful engravings, a desire to reproduce reality while embellishing it with bright colors, like medieval illuminations. This subtle metaphor invites the reader to explore the play of light and color in Rimbaud's writing. Dynamism also permeates his poetic style, where motifs of verticality and circularity mingle with evocations of the distant horizon.

Our work is emblematic of the obvious affinity between Sonia Delaunay and Arthur Rimbaud's literary work. She subtly composes a true dynamism thanks to the deep black and intense blue arcs, complemented by bright colors that create a striking contrast with the radiant luminosity of the stencil.
