For Pierre Soulages, lithography constitutes a privileged field of experimentation, in which the exploration of light is inseparable from working with black. The artist deliberately seeks the unforeseen and creative accidents, not as mere fortuitous effects, but as phenomena to be observed, analysed and fully integrated into the creative process. By rejecting the principle of the simple “bon à tirer”, he intervenes across the entire print run, reworking each proof in order to refine his work.
