After a drawing by Robert Delaunay
reprinted in 1969, numbered, titled, annotated ‘pour Robert Delaunay 1926-1969’ and signed by Sonia Delaunay
BFK Rives Paper
Inspired by a preparatory drawing by Delaunay for La Ville n°2, this lithograph bears witness to the artist's process of formal deconstruction between 1909 and 1911. It creates a dialogue with the cubism of Braque and Picasso, and his own work on light. The city is represented in a fragmented way, with various planes superimposed in a tangle of geometric shapes. But Delaunay breaks away from this by introducing an optical filter - the glass - which transforms the landscape into a theater of luminous vibrations.
