This portrait of the famous squire and companion of Don Quixote, by Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes, was taken from an album created for the exhibition at the Galerie Maurice Garnier in Paris, held from February 2 to March 31, 1989. Buffet's work is brightly colored and luminous. The character's features and contours are exaggeratedly pronounced, with multiple black strokes, typical of the French artist's style.
