In Le Domaine de la Baume, Bernard Buffet offers far more than a simple architectural depiction: he paints the portrait of a beloved place, the refuge of his final years. This Provençal residence, located in Tourtour in the Var region, became for the artist an inexhaustible source of inspiration, almost a familiar presence.
“Bernard had decided to make it into landscapes and interior views, in the manner of a detailed portrait of someone you love...,” recalled Annabel Buffet.
With his sharp lines and emphatic contours, Buffet creates a true portrait of La Baume — not a mere topographical representation, but a sensitive evocation. Each line feels like a gesture of affection, each shadow a trace of time shared. The artist captures the soul of the place with the same intensity as that of a loved face.
