Here, Niki de Saint Phalle forcefully exposes a modern paradox: the freedom women have conquered over their bodies is still under scrutiny, contested and debated. The presence of contraceptive pills and the Lippas buckle symbolize medical advances, but also the weight of a society that expects women to manage their fertility. In counterpoint, the erect man, a spectral silhouette of the male impulse, reminds us that desire and power remain unequally distributed. The Nana, an emblem of power and freedom, nevertheless seems marked by uncertainty.
